We recently attended the wedding of a gorgeous couple who have been together for many years, and who have recently welcomed a daughter into their lives - Laura and Paul. They got married at the stunningly modern (yet still keeping the classic Scottish hotel charm) Lochside House Hotel, found within the vast hills of Ayrshire, Scotland, and set on the banks of the Loch of the Lowes.
Lochside House Hotel is one of both Ayrshire and Scotland’s top wedding venues and has won many awards for being one of the best wedding venues Scotland has to offer. The hotel is beautiful on the outside, with its perfectly manicured and landscaped gardens, that wrap around the venue and nestle against the banks of the adjoining loch. And of course, the hotel interior matches the beauty of the outside, with its more modern architecture and facilities juxtaposing the wildness of the nature outside.
Historically, the venue used to be a hunting lodge for the marquis of Bute, but now it is a luxury hotel and wedding venue with 32 luxury rooms, and several private lodges on-site. There are seven distinct types of room available, including: classic, executive, executive family, Garden suite, Lowes suite, Creoch suite, and the Cygnet Honeymoon suite. All these rooms have en-suite bathrooms and captivating views of the Ayrshire countryside surrounding the hotel.
The Lochside House Hotel lodges are a more private option, and are great for large groups, family holidays, or if you just want to get away with a few friends. They can also be used for hen or stag parties, if your group fancies a quieter celebration. The lodges are all self-catering, and have a fully equipped kitchen, living room space, dining room area, a private outdoor terrace, and a hot tub.
Within the hotel there is also both a spa and a restaurant which anyone, whether you have a room or not, can use. The spa offers many different forms of treatment, from reflexology to full body massages, and even treatments focusing on the hands and feet. Within the hotel, Afton restaurant offers light bites, afternoon teas, lunches and dinners, and has separate allergy and gluten free menus. You can even get some of their amazing food whilst you’re relaxing in the spa!
When booking one of their affordable wedding venue packages, you can choose from two main function rooms for your Lochside House Hotel wedding reception: the Glen Caol or Lochview function suites. Both are great for large parties, and the Lochview has been recently modernised, and now has full, sweeping glass windows, which gives an almost 360º view of the Afton hills of Ayrshire that encapsulate the luxury hotel.
Going back to our lovely couple Laura and Paul, who got married at Lochside House Hotel after many delays due to COVID, and who made sure that their daughter was involved in as many parts of the wedding as possible (given that then she was only a few months old!). We were so incredibly lucky to be able to bear witness to their special day, and for our Scottish wedding videographer to capture memories on video for them to look back on. Other suppliers who also attended were: Victoria Charlotte Rose (photographer), Emma Durkan Music, JAM Events, Humanist Ceremonies with Karen, and Carrs Loch Lomond.
Their extra special day begins with footage of both the bridal and groom parties getting ready, showing off big smiles while they do so, obviously excited for the big day ahead. Once everyone is ready and the guests have arrived and settled into their seats, a harpist plays as Laura is led down the aisle by her father, and she looks enchanting. It’s a charmingly romantic ceremony, and we luckily captured many great shots of the couple tying the knot.
After the ceremony was over, guests and the wedding party were ushered outside for celebratory drinks and photos in the hotel’s well-manicured gardens. During this time, our wedding videographer also got some good shots of the reception before everyone arrived, and of course the cake, which was Harry Potter themed as it's one of the couples' favourite franchises.
Before the reception truly started though, our professional wedding videographer managed to grab some more intimate and personal footage of the couple with just the two of them standing outside in front of the venue, as well as in the hotel grounds, and next to the shimmering loch. The video then continues with shots of the evening reception, and everyone getting involved in the dancing.
Finally, to end both the day and their highlights video off, we included drone wedding footage of the pair standing in front of the Lochside House Hotel venue, whilst they share a private kiss away from the rest of the wedding. Overall, it was a great wedding, and we’re so lucky that Laura and Paul decided to let us be the ones to film it for them. We wish them a lifetime of happiness together and the best for the future.
