One of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever filmed was the Isle of Bute wedding for Gillian and Robert. They started off the day with their main ceremony in the charming St Ninians Church, near Rothesay, the main town on the island. This gothic-style church, originally built in 1886, has undergone renovations in recent years, helping to restore it back to its former glory.
During the ceremony, after arriving by horse and carriage, they took part in many Scottish wedding traditions, including drinking from a quaich and handfasting. Surrounded by family and friends, Robert’s grandad officially welcomed Gillian into the Ferguson clan. Their wedding unfortunately had to be rescheduled a couple of times due to COVID, but now they could finally celebrate together.
Once the ceremony was over, the wedding party moved to Kames Estate nearby, to capture video footage from our professional wedding videographer. The story of Kames Estate began in the 14th century, when Robert the Bruce, the renowned King of the Scots, gifted it to the Bannatyne family as thanks for their help towards the victory at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Kames Castle is in the centre of this estate and is a perfect spot for wedding photos.
Another spot where photos and videos were taken was on the many scenic, stunning beaches that surround the island. Our Scottish wedding videographer took drone wedding footage of the gorgeous pair sneaking kisses and private moments whilst strolling along the shores of the Isle of Bute, which really added to the overall atmosphere of their finished wedding video.
After Kames Estate, the wedding party retired to a more laid-back reception, which was held in a gazebo in the back garden of a house in Kingarth, a small village on the southern part of the island. Gillian and Robert had their first dance outdoors, backlit by the warm colours of the summer sun. Of course, everyone else joined them on the dance floor afterwards.
The speeches are of course some of the best parts about a wedding, as you find out more about a couple, how they met, their proposal story, and usually a funny anecdote or two from the best man. At this wedding, they didn’t disappoint!
Their story began at the Royal Highland Show, after Robert decided at the last minute to join a couple of friends there. He met Gillian and they were together 5 years before they finally were able to get married. Since Gillian was in Aberdeen and Robert was on the Isle of Bute, they had to make it work long distance.
Overall, this was one of our favourite weddings to film, edit and watch back, and we really do wish Gillian and Robert a lifetime of happiness; thank you again for letting us be a part of your incredibly special day.
